Naxos Agia Anna and Maragas with the Leica SL

At Naxos the area from Agia Anna to Maragas is one of the best location for holydays in Europe. All pictures were made with the Leica SL 601 and the Vario 24-90mm lens and the Summilux 35mm FLE.

Leica SL with Vario 24-90mm in Apiranthos

Apiranthos and Chalki are two small villages in the mountains of Naxos. They are beautiful places with authentic old streets and nice small restaurants.  This pictures were made with the Leica SL 601 and the Vario 24-90mm lens.

Leica SL with Vario 24-90mm in Naxos Town

I have spent a week at Naxos Greece which is a nice island for holidays. Naxos town is a great mix of old middle age streets and modern tourism. Besides the tourism you can find some very old original places which are quiet and full of charme and history. This pictures were made with the Leica SL 601 and the Vairo 24-90mm lens.

Street photography in Santorini Thira

Santorini is one of the most popular islands in Greece. Especially for U.S. americans and Asians, this island seems to be mandatory.
The view into the caldera is really fascinating. Unfortunately, the island is totally in the hand of tourism. The main town Thira is more like a shopping center than a typical Greek place.

I had the opportunity to spend two days on Santorini, including a day in Thira. Since this island has already been photographed entirely by catalog photographer, it makes no sense to make more romantic Caldera photos. Instead, it was a good chance to walk around and to make some street photos.

All pictures were taken with the Leica M with the Summilux 35 FLE and the Tri-Elmar 16mm.

Naxos Maragas and Agia Anna

Maragas is the most beautiful beach on Naxos and Agia Anna is a very, very small port 500 meter before maragas.
Here are some impressions made with a Leica M240 and the Noctilux f 0.95.

Chalkio and Apeiranthos at Naxos

Chalkio (Chalki) is a small village on Naxos, it’s about 5 km before Filoti. Only 500 people live here. There are many olive plantations in the surrounding area. From Chalkio starts many wonderfull trails.
From the fire station turn left into the small street. At the end is a small place from where you can start going to the village Moni in the mountains. 10 km away from Chalkio is Apeiranthos, a nice mountain village with a view to the biggest mointain Zas.

Katapola Amorgos

Armorgos is a quiet and beautiful island in the Cyclades. We were three days on Amorgos and visited Katapola, Chora and the Monastery Chozoviotissa. There are separate posts about the places. Katapola is situated in a bay and has three parts which are connected by a road.
On the side of the small port there are hotels, restaurants and shops. Opposite there are some nice little restaurants right on the water and in the middle part there is a large church.

Who visit Amorgos should definitely stay in Katapola as this place has a special charm. We stayed at Hotel Amorgion about 1 km above the village, with a beautiful view into the bay. In addition, the hotel has a small pool which is wonderfully refreshing after long walks. We left Amorgos with the 6 in the morning ferry Blue Star which is rewarded with an awesome sunrise.

The monastery Chozoviotissa Amorgos

The monastery Chozoviotissa is the most popular and impressive place on Amorgos. It’s well known by the movie ‚The Deep Blue‘ by Luc Besson.
The start sequence is a fly over the sea directly to the monastery which is build in the cliff. Some other szenes of this movie were made on Amorgos, and so this movie gave the tourism a little push.
The monastery was build in the 9th centry and there still live monks. You can visit the monastery every day but don’t forget long pants.

Naxos Greece

Naxos chora is one of the most beautiful towns in Greece. The old part called labyrinth was built in the middle ages and still has the charm of the past. Each photo here was taken by a Leica M9 and the 35mm Asph and 50mm Summilux Asph.
